Done something again

This little beach hut is just finished. It is scale 1:144 and it is so cute!

Next picture shows it next to my 1:12 beach hut.

Now you can see how tiny it is!!!

The mini-virus is back, so I have the inspiration and energy to do some mini-ing again.

I have taken a cabinet and removed the top. I just used the bottom to make a Bombe Chest.

I like the way it turned out. I just have to attach some handles and it is finished. Maybe it will be a little bit aged, but I´m not sure about that yet.

Cabinet and gift from my dad

Finally I have found the time and pleasure to do some mini-ing again. I have painted and changed this cabinet to transform it into an aged one. I could not resist to put some things into the cabinet to see what it would look like :-)

A while ago my dad made this antique washing-machine for me. Look how beautiful he made it! It has to go into my thirties house.

It really works, you can turn the wheel and the washer will turn the laundry around. It still has to be aged with some wood-stain.

Arnhem 29/10

Last saturday I went to the dollshousefair in Arnhem, together with my mother and my two daughters.
We have had a very nice day.
I have met Peiwen. What a lovely lady she is! It was very nice to meet you in person Peiwen.

I also met Carol and her husband Tomas. How nice to finally meet the people behind the beautiful paper kits! I have bought some cupcake wrappers and they are delightful.

We have been back from our holiday in Denmark for two weeks now. We had a good time in a beautiful country but the weather was less nice.

One beautiful picture taken at Den Gamle By. It´s an old city in the middle of Aarhus with a lot of inspirational scenes for people who love old buildings and interiors (like me).
The kids are back to school, so I should be able to do some mini-ing again ;-)

Before our holiday I had bought some pretty things for my bathshop (see pictures, they are gorgeous!)

For my dad

A few weeks ago my dad turned 64. He told me last year that he would like to have his garage (he has a very large garage where he works on his hobby: restoring classic cars) in miniature. I didn´t copy it exactly (it would have been a large building then :-)) but made a roombox with a few things in it.
It took a lot of time, but my dad is worth it. It is not as messy as his real garage, but maybe he will start cleaning his real garage :-).

Window screen tutorial

In July 2010 I showed you the windowscreen I made for my Thirties House. Catherine asked me if I could write a tutorial about how it is made. It has taken a (long) while, but here it is :-)

You need:
* scoubidou string
* iron wire (about 0,4 mm)
* superglue
* fabric (net)
* woodstain or paint in any colour you like
* gesso
* pattern for making the shape of your windowscreen

First you make a pattern of the shape you like.
I searched the internet for a photo of a windowscreen I liked and made it 1:12th scale.
Like this one:

I made a drawing of the shape on the paper:

Put the iron wire in the scoubidou string:

and start making the shape:

When you are satisfied glue the ends together. Then make some short pieces for the ´legs´ of the screen:

After it has dried you can paint it with gesso (I use 2 layers to cover the string):

When the gesso is dry you can give your screen a coat of woodstain (that´s what I did), but you can also use any colour of paint you wish:

Cut some (net) fabric and glue onto the screen:

When the glue has dried cut along the lines of the screen:

and stain or paint the ends (of the fabric) again:

And you will have a windowscreen ;-)

What is scoubidou?

I quote from wikipedia: scoubidou threads are supple, round and hollow plasticized PVC tubes usually about 80 centimetres in length. They are sold in various colours, sizes and types, and are used to make various items by binding them together with special knots. On account of their elasticity and hollow cross-section — which allow them to collapse and deform when pulled — they can easily form extremely tight and stable knots. Key chains, friendship bands and other trinkets are most commonly woven, although more complicated shapes and figures can also be created.

Other names are (again according to wiki):
Gimp, Scoubi, Scoobie, Boondoggle, or Lanyard

I hope the tutorial was clear enough. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
And once you have tried scoubidou I think you will see more possibilities to use them.

Bottles and swap with Caterina

Last week I have bought some bottles from Hanneke. She makes the most beautiful bottles, so I couldn´t resist to add a few more to my bottle collection :-)

I received my package from Caterina last Saturday. She has spoiled me!!!

Kitchen

My kitchen in the thirties house is taking shape slowly.
Above are two pictures in black and white (like the old days) and below is one in colour.

There is still a lot to be done, but it´s a start :-)
All the tiles on the wall are cut out of those pieces with paint colours on it (don´t know how they call it in English). You can take them from your DIY store (at least in Holland). There are a lot of ´whites´ (with shades of blue, green, pink and yellow). After cutting them they are glued onto paper randomly and it gives a nice effect (that´s what I think).
More pictures will follow when there is more to show ;-)

First attempts in clay and purchase...

Yesterday I have tried to make some cheesecakes, but I already knew I am not that good with clay :-(
and it was clear to me after struggling for almost a whole day that I need a lot of practice to become good at it!!!

This is what came out of my hands:

It always seems so easy when I see someone else do it!
Now I know I just have to buy my minifood from people who know how to make it look great.

I received my etsy purchase from Ana yesterday and that looks gorgeous!!!!!

Question: I find it very hard to make good pictures in this time of year. In the summer I try to take them outside, with lots of daylight. But in the darker days I have to take them inside with little light. How do you all manage to make beautiful pictures? Can you give me some hints?

Today the giveaway by Beatriz arrived. Thank you so much Beatriz. I love it!

And my mother has made these beautiful Irises for me (recently, in the past she has already made various things for me, she is very talented). They are made out of silk.

My mother has no dollshouse for herself and doesn´t want one either, so everything she makes goes to me. Lucky me :-)

Before the summer she made me all these books and boxes. She loves bookbinding 1:1 and lucky for me she does it in 1:12 scale too. Some (Dutch) people might even recognize the W.G. van der Hulst books (for my thirties house).

My Christmas swap is on it´s way. So I hope to have some time for blogging again.

Purchases and busy...

Last week arrived some purchases I did on etsy (Jennifer):

A lot of beautiful pieces of soap and her ´famous´ robins egg soaps in a glass jar. They will look great in my new shop ;-)

I am very busy with the Christmas swap. Takes some time to get ideas and then work them out. But I hope to be ready soon :-)

Yesterday Nadine showed a Christmas star made out of printed paper. It looked lovely. I have made it to scale for my dollshouse (I think it looks great with shabby/french/scandinavian interiors).

The original idea was from Miette. It was not easy to do in this scale, but it´s finished ;-)
It measures 2 cm, so it´s not big! I have to practice a bit more to get it perfect.

Inspiration

Lately it seems I am only working after pictures that inspire me :-)
I had seen a black (aged) wardrobe, don´t even remember where I saw it and even if it was 1:12th scale or 1:1!!! I am getting old :-(
I changed a eurominis closet and turned it into:

Inside is a beautiful candlestick and candle by Flora , the other bits and pieces are made or bought by myself.
The wallpaper is a print from a wallpaper catalogue which I reduced to a smaller size (in paint).
The little shells in the glass jar are found on one of the beautiful beaches of Denmark.

Patty told me it might have been her wardrobe that I had seen, and I believe it is. Take a look, it is beautiful!

Lavender

Thank you all for your lovely comments on my sofa and table (and of course for all the comments on other posts, I love every comment).
I had a few questions about the lavender.
Here is how I make it (it has been in a dutch dollshouse magazine years ago, don´t remember when):
You need Lycopodium (pictured below). I bought it from http://www.sillysisters.nl/pakketje-kerstboom-sil0013-p-1413.html . I don´t know if it is sold separately. The Silly Sisters sell it as a workshop package for a Christmas tree.

It is a very dark green, so I picked a piece of lavender out of my garden to try and mix a similar colour.

I used bayberry green and mixed it with a little grey and black until it was the right colour greyish green. Then I painted the Lycopodium with this mixed paint and it came out like this (below).

To make the flowers I used Flower Soft in the colour (of course) Lavender.

Dip a piece of iron wire (it might be painted in the same colour as the leaves) in glue and after that in the Flower Soft. Use your fingers to shape it a little.

Cut the leaves and put them in a pot (or basket like I did). I usually put selfhardening clay in the pot and cover it with glue. After that I put some tea or coffee (as soil) on the glue. Put the leaves in (before the clay hardens ;-) ) and put the flowers in between the leaves to make a nice lavender.

Sofa and table

Last week I was reading a book about interiors by Rachel Ashwell. And I wanted to make some furniture in that style. So I have searched my kits (I have a lot waiting for me to make them :-) ) and found this Queen Anne settee and a Hepplewhite Serpentine table. With some painting and sanding it a little it looks different doesn´t it?

I also made a lavender in a basket, some books (these were the ones I meant Susanne) and cushions to dress the sofa. The tiny buttons are made out of those plastic clips that are on a bag of bread. I punched them out and made two holes in them with a needle.

The last picture is one of the pictures I took during the day, but the sun was shining very bright. I placed it because you can see the colours better.

My thirties house is still waiting and sometimes I´m doing little things for it. I will start working on it again next week. Have a nice sunday!

Hallstand finished :-)

My inspiration came from this picture. I wanted to make it in miniature. It is not a copy of the picture, but it has the same style I think.
The hallstand is from euromini´s and is painted grey and afterwards it is aged.
All the accessories are made by myself except the umbrella (it´s from a chrysnbon kit).

Weekend results

Last weekend I have made a Mora clock. I love these clocks. Especially the older ones, with a nice antique patina. I have tried to recreate that patina, but it wasn´t easy. Problem is always that I like it when it is on my desk, but when I have taken pictures and look closer at the pictures there are always some imperfections :-(
I have also made some flowers and some kitchen items.

It will end up my french/scandinavian house (a lot of inspiration comes from magazines like Vakre Hjem and Jeanne d´Arc Living).

Here are a few pictures of some small things I made the past week.

I am working on a hallstand after a picture in a magazine. The hat was made for hanging on the hallstand, pictures of the hallstand will follow when it is finished.

The third and fourth picture are a candlestick and a cake stand which are made from ornaments by http://www.bindelsornaments.nl/joomla/ . You can make great things with these ornaments!

I painted the cake stand antique white (but when I make the picture bigger I can see I missed a few spots).

Results of my vacation...

Here is what I bought in Sweden and Denmark. Beautiful fabrics, paint, beads, chairs and other bits and pieces. Fabrics and paint and maybe the chairs will be for my "french/scandinavian" house. The beads and bits will be made into bottles and pots for a new shop I will be making coming October (fair in Arnhem).
It will be a shop with bathroom needs :-)

Below are the things I made during the vacation (I know it´s not much, but you know, 4 kids and 1 husband, little time left for mini-ing :-( ). Not in the pictures are a box for cleaning stuff (mcqueenies kit housemaids box) and two grisham books I made (maybe I´ll show them later).

The contents of the cupboard below are not made by me, it´s all bought!

I am still thinking about a giveaway and hope to start it this week. My youngest two are back to school, the eldest two have to go next week. So I hope to have more time for mini-ing!

Surprises

Saturday evening we came home from our vacation in Sweden and Denmark. There were two nice surprises for me in the mail.

2. The prize I won for guessing what Sabiha´s house http://sabsminiinteriors.blogspot.com/ would be going to look like.

And I found these beautiful gifts inside. They are gorgeous. Thank you Sabiha.

I have a very busy week this week so I don´t think I will be posting again before next week. But I can tell you that I have a lot of inspiration for a new project ;-)

The third surprise I found was on my blog. I have passed the 300 followers. WOW, thank you all so much for following me. I will be thinking about a giveaway.

But now I have to go and paint the 1:1 bedroom of my eldest daughter.

Today the mail brought me these magazines from Allison http://miniatureallsorts.blogspot.com/ . Now I have something to read in my vacation :-)

And a package with things I purchased at http://www.artofmini.com/ . Janny sells beautiful furniture and other things for dollshouses. The cupboard is a kit and the other things are a bench, a thermos flask, a thimble and a hat stand (antique).

I will be taking some kits with me on our vacation, so I hope to show some finished products afterwards!

Stationery

This is the result of my weekend. I made some stationery. You can see (at least I hope :-) ) that it is Cath Kidston stationery. I think it is so colourful and it looks so cheerful! I had to do a lot of copy & paste in paint, but it looks allright now. I don´t think the envelopes are true to scale. I might have to do them again :-( The cup with pencils is a top of a gluebottle. I was throwing it away and suddenly thought it might be a nice cup! The pencils are just painted pieces of iron wire.

Yesterday I had seen a lot of furniture on Marktplaats.nl (second hand). Today it came in. There were more bits and pieces, but they found their way into the houses of my kids :-)
The bath is polished, it had several pieces glued onto it and when it was removed there were ugly spots. So I had to remove them! The kitchen is not my kind of colour and style, so it has to be done too (with some paint).
It will be grey with a black stone (like) top I think. And the doors need to be lined out properly, they don´t open and close very easy :-(

White geranium and old stepladder

Wednesday I have painted this little stepladder (I am not getting much done, because the kids are around me all the time (summervacation) and they want to have some attention too :-) ). When I was finished I thought it might look nice with a plant on it (it seems to me everyone is making flowers at this moment (solar power???)) so I made a white geranium. I think it looks nice...

Window screen (old fashioned)

This window screen (was used to protect flowers from the sun) I made yesterday for my thirties house. It was made out of a scoubidou string which is strengthened by iron wire. After it was made in the right form it was painted with two coats of gesso. After that I painted it with dark woodstain. And finally I glued some fine fabric (net) onto the frame.

Of course I had to make a flower to be protected by the screen ;-)

About 2 months ago I made this roombox for my sister. She has two cats and she said she would like it if I made a roombox about her cats. So I did ;-) The cats look a lot like her cats and she was happy with the result.

It seems I am only making minis after tutorials lately....

Not any inspiration of my own ;-)

I made this delphinium with the help of a tutorial by Nina ( http://tudordollhouse.blogspot.com/2010/06/miniature-112-scale-delphinium-tutorial.html ). She made some beautiful flowers and inspired me to try it myself.

The second picture shows the mini next to the real flower. I think my mini is a bit dark compared to the real one.

Maybe it needs some extra paint.....

Romantic little table

It took me a lot of time and patience to make this little table after a tutorial again by Nadine http://nadsa.over-blog.com/2-categorie-10207022.html .

It looked so lovely and easy to make..... :-(

It was a hard job to get the legs in a nice shape and all 4 of them a bit alike!

I admire Nadine a lot more now :-) (I already did after the basket, which was not easy either)

The second picture shows the little table in my shop. The shop still has to be filled with sweet coloured things.... one day.

My eldest daughter had seen a tutorial about making a miniature iced cake. So she tried it herself (she loves sweet things and chocolate). She used silicone sealant for the icing, a cork for the cake, orange slices as decoration and ground pepper around the cake. I think she made a very nice cake. Well done Janike!

We had a nice week (the weather was ok, it was dry ;-)).

Kitchen

This kitchen I made about a year ago for my roombox. I think I am going to make a kitchen like this one for my 'french' house, but it will be in grey with a white sink.

The 'french' house will get a scandinavian twist :-)

So it will be light and white (I think).

I am working on several things right now, but nothing is finished yet :-(

The hall of my thirties house is almost finished. I will make some pictures and post them when it's ready.

Victorian house

Here are a few pictures of my Victorian house. My dad built it from a building plan. It is a very big house, it measures 120 cm (h) x 74 cm (d) x 59 cm (w).

I just took pictures of a few rooms, because I have to clean the house before I can take more pictures (just like my 1:1 house ;-))

Spring

Spring definitely has arrived in Holland. It gives me a lot of energy :-)
It is my favourite season. For me it is a promise that things will be better again. Life starts all over again, everything starts growing and blooming. I love it!

I wanted a little bit of a spring feeling in my miniature world too, so I made a few flowers.

Style for the ´french house´

This is the style I want to use in the ´french house´ (the one from Bob Willans).

The beautiful pitchers and tulips are made by Sylvia (http://lotjesdollshouse.blogspot.com/).

The rest is painted or made from kits by myself. The clocks are bought. I think it makes a pretty picture. Hope you like it too ;-)

But it will take a while before I can start on this house. I have to do the thirties house first.
It´s so hard to work on just one thing at a time :-(

Dollshouse for my daughter

I passed the dollshousevirus on to my youngest daughter. She is only 10, but she really wanted a dollshouse. So we bought her one for her birthday (in August, so it´s a little bit early, but it was a bargain). It is a very BIG house. She has her own ideas of interior decorating, I will leave that to her. But she will need some help I think, so it might be on my to-do-list in the end ;-)

Kitchenfloor

The floor in the kitchen is finished! I still have to fix it to the floor of the house, but I don´t know how I am going to do that.

It is made of a sort of roofing material (for a 1:1 house) I think. It was a big sheet with tiles cut into the material. I had to do the grouting myself, which I did à la Josje (http://josje.bouwt.com/homepage/show/pagina.php?paginaid=275637&c=0d6c46bc).

I think it has become a nice floor.

Piano

The piano for my thirties house is finished. I think it looks great. It is a kit from Mini Mundus. I like those kits. You can make beautiful furniture with them. And some changes to the original will give it your own style. I really should finish the house before making furniture ;-), but it´s so much fun to make! (the furniture I mean)

The stool is almost finished, it only needs a cushion, but I´m not sure yet what kind of fabric and color to use. So a picture of the stool will come when it is finished.

Macarons

Yesterday I received a mold for macarons from http://www.etsy.com/shop/yippiekawaiiyeah . You can make great macarons that way. The box was made by my son (the 15 year old). He is very good at the computer ;-)

The cupcakes are partially made with a mold by Christel Jensen and the top is from the same mold as the macarons.

Projects waiting to be finished

As you can see I have a lot of houses/shops waiting to be finished. I am not very good at finishing one project before starting a new one ;-)
The first picture is going to be a babyshop. The second picture is a victorian house that is almost finished except for some lights and curtains.
The third picture is a little shop with small home decorating things (like soap bottles, cushions etc.). The fourth picture is a big roombox, it has a kitchen, livingroom, toilet and hallway. There is still a lot of work to do.
The fifth picture is my thirties house. I am working on this house almost every day now. But it will take some time before it is finished (it´s a big house!).
The sixth picture is a house made by Bob Willans à la Lea Frisoni. I haven´t even started on this one (my son will be angry if I do ;-), he says I have to finish all the other projects first, maybe he is right).
And the last picture is a scrapbookshop. I have done some work already (a lot of paper to be made).
The only project that has been finished is my beachhouse. You can see pictures in another post (2/2/10).

I will try to keep you updated ;-)

Mirror and mail

These beautiful vases came in yesterday afternoon. I love them. They are so nice! I bought them at ebay from Bertie Pittman: http://tinyurl.com/k99hg. He makes the most lovely things!

Last weekend I made a mirror for the livingroom of my thirties house. Waiting for the glue to set was the hardest part! But I am happy with the result. Here are two pictures of the mirror.
